Who We Are
We are a group of people cycling together in the Parry Sound area from spring to Fall. Many have become good friends. We are loosely known as “Sound Riders”. For many of us PS is a second home year-round, for some it’s seasonal, and some are permanent residents. For most of us who are not permanent residents, it is either the home we are transitioning to/spending more and more time in/retiring to, or just plain love the most. We all share in the desire to give back and would love the opportunity to express this by having a donation page.
Care When I Needed It
It was August 2018. Feeling in the best shape of his life, Lake Joe cottager John Offutt and his (young) friend Connor were cycling 141, attacking the hills, determined to chalk up new Strava personal bests. They were climbing the second of ‘Three Sisters’ hills on Hwy 141 when John called out “Oh ~§*t!”. Alarmed, Connor turned only to see John unclip from his bike, stager to the side of the road and pass out in the ditch. Pushed to the limit, John’s heart had lost its normal rhythm and ceased pumping blood. Luckily Connor was trained and gave lifesaving CPR to John. Within 15 minutes the Rosseau Fire Department arrived to administer a Defibrillator shock. Minutes later, John was ambulanced to our ER. At the West Parry Sound Health Centre John was diagnosed, treated and stabilized. John was then transferred to larger cardiac centres ultimately receiving a pacemaker/defibrillator. Thankful to the three hospitals involved, John is ever grateful that West Parry Sound Health Centre was close by to save his life.
John’s Goal: John has pledged 5 cents for every kilometre ridden by any member who signs ups and logs their klicks on PSRide whether through Strava or manually from now until August 31st 2020.
